You've got a new product dropping Thursday at 9am. You've also built a bundle around it: the new item plus two bestsellers at a better price. Customers should see both at the same moment, and the bundle should never be live while the product is still hidden.
That sounds simple. It usually isn't.
Why bundle launches go sideways
A bundle launch isn't one change. It's several, and they all depend on each other:
- The new product has to be published.
- The bundle product has to be published.
- The bundle discount, if you're running one, has to switch on.
- Your announcement bar or homepage callout has to change.
- The bundle may need to appear in a "Bundles" collection.
Miss one and the launch looks broken. The bundle goes live first, so shoppers can buy an item that doesn't have its own page yet. Or the product goes live alone, and the bundle that was supposed to lift your average order value sits in draft until someone notices at 9:40.
Whether you built the bundle with a bundles app or as a separate listing you manage yourself, it's still a product with its own published state. That's the part that has to be timed.
What Shopify handles on its own
Shopify gives you some of this natively. You can schedule a product's publish date from the product page under Online Store availability, using Schedule availability. So yes, you could schedule the new product and the bundle separately, one at a time, for the same minute.
You can also set start and end dates on a discount natively.
What Shopify won't do:
- Tie those changes together into one launch you can see and edit in one place.
- Take a product or bundle back down on a schedule.
- Schedule the announcement bar, the price change, or the collection tag that goes with it.
So you end up with three or four separate timers set in three or four different screens. If the launch moves from Thursday to Friday, you have to remember every one of them.
Native scheduling runs on your store's timezone, not your customer's. If your store is set to Eastern and you're launching for a West Coast audience, do the math before you pick a time.
Build the launch as one automation
In Schedule It, a bundle launch is a single automation with multiple actions that all fire at the launch time. Here's the setup we'd use.
1. Publish the new product
Add a product publish action for the new item. Pick the date, the time, and confirm your store timezone.
2. Publish the bundle
Add a second product publish action for the bundle. Same trigger time. Because both actions live in one automation, they can't drift apart. Change the launch time once and everything moves together.
3. Activate the bundle discount
If the bundle has a launch discount, add a discount activate action. You could schedule this natively, but putting it in the same automation means the discount can't go live before the bundle does.
4. Turn on the announcement bar
Add an announcement bar action with your launch message. No theme code edits. It flips on with everything else.
Optional: drop it into a collection
If you run a smart collection for bundles, add a product tag action that adds the matching tag to the bundle at launch. The collection picks it up automatically. If the whole collection is new, you can publish the collection itself on the same timer.
Save the finished automation as a template. Next time you launch a product with a bundle, you swap in the new products and time instead of building it from scratch.
The free plan allows 3 actions per automation, which covers product, bundle, and discount. Adding the banner, tags, or a collection takes a paid plan. Details are on the pricing page.
Set an end time if the bundle is temporary
Plenty of bundles are launch-only. The product stays, but the bundle offer runs for a week.
Add an end time to the automation and turn on auto-revert. At the end time, the bundle unpublishes, the discount deactivates, and the announcement bar switches off. The new product stays live because you only revert what you choose to revert.
That's the step people forget on a manual launch. The bundle quietly keeps selling at launch pricing for a month.
Watch your inventory
If you sell a bundle as its own product with its own stock count, it can oversell when the components run out. On the Growth plan and up, you can schedule inventory changes per variant and location. Set the bundle's stock at launch, or switch its inventory policy so it stops selling when it hits zero. Check how your bundle setup tracks stock before you rely on either.
Run a pre-launch check
The day before, open the automation and confirm:
- Both the product and bundle are in draft or hidden right now.
- Every action points at the right product, discount, and collection.
- The launch time matches your store timezone.
- Email alerts go to whoever is on call. You can add up to 10 addresses.
After launch, check the execution log. It shows each action and whether it ran. If something fails, Schedule It retries automatically with backoff, and the alert email tells you what happened. For a broader launch run-through, the Shopify product launch checklist covers the rest, and coordinating a multi-step campaign in one automation goes deeper on stacking actions.
